AOL is an Internet company that began in 1985 as Quantum Computer Services. In 1991 it became America Online and the next year went public. Among its biggest early businesses was the Internet service it provided through dial-up connection. In 2001 it was merged into Time Warner to form AOL Time Warner. But that marriage didn’t last and in 2009 it was spun off as an independent company.

AOL owns and operates more than 80 content sites, including several related to news.
